Dall’Argentina all’Italia. Mafalda e la sua traduzione

Abstract: Comics are narrative space where the interplay of the visual code and the verbal code convey meaning and create the story. The focus of this article is on the translation of comics, especially of Mafalda from Spanish-American into Italian language. In the first part the author provides a description of the main characters and their stories, also illustrating the way in which Quino depicts them. The other one proposes a translation approach to Mafalda where the linguistic and the semiotic aspects have the same importance and where the metalinguistic references and the interplay of different languages and varieties are translated without loosing the comic effect of the source text.
