L’arca marmorea del beato Bertrando di Saint-Geniès, patriarca di Aquileia dal 1334 al 1350, è un’opera di scultura medievale tra le più importanti dell’Italia settentrionale. Il volume, in italiano e in inglese, propone una lettura chiara e immediata del monumento, commissionato dal patriarca Bertrando per riporvi le reliquie dei santi patroni di Aquileia, Ermacora e Fortunato, e divenuto il suo stesso sepolcro nel 1353. I testi e le immagini, frutto delle ricerche e degli studi condotti in seguito ai restauri, offrono un’efficace analisi stilistica e un’aggiornata trattazione dei temi legati alla Passio dei due martiri aquileiesi.

The marble ark of the Blessed Bertrand of Saint-Geniès, Patriarch of Aquileia from 1334 to 1350, is one of the most important works of medieval sculpture in northern Italy. This volume, in Italian and English, provides an accessible and engaging examination of the monument, which was commissioned by Patriarch Bertrand to hold the relics of the patron saints of Aquileia, Hermacoras and Fortunatus, and which became his own sepulchre in 1353. The texts and images draw on the re-search and studies carried out after the restorations and offer an effective stylistic analysis and an up-to-date treatise of the themes around the Passio of the two martyrs from Aquileia.
