L’India dell’immaginazione nei racconti di Raja Rao

Raja Rao, one of the 'founding fathers' of the Twentieth century Indian novel in English, both denounces and expresses the social degradation and lyricism of everyday life in India, revealing a millenarian culture capable of dialoguing with the West in images and symbols that are distinctively its own. Stefano Mercanti, who lived and pursued his research in India, analyses various facets of Rao's short-fiction by applying for the first time a 'mutual critical approach' within the vast scenario of post-colonial studies, in order to better understand the dialogic 'partnership' between East and West. In this landmark book Mercanti unravels the philosophical, linguistic and multi-cultural complexity with which Indian identity is woven.
